Smoke Damage - Benjamin Restore

Smoke Damage

Smoke and soot may seem like minor issues when a fire has happened in your commercial building, but they are much more hazardous than you might think. Smoke and soot will quickly spread to areas of a building that the fire never touched.

Smoke and soot can get inside cupboards, drawers, the HVAC system and in many other spaces that you wouldn’t suspect. Lingering smoke becomes much more difficult to get rid of the longer it sits, and soot can permanently damage items like glass and mirrors if left on for too long. The sooner you call our professional team, the faster we will be able to clean up and repair the work and make sure that you don’t have a bigger problem on your hands. Luckily, our team is on-call around the clock to make sure that we are on the scene and working on the restoration process as quickly as possible to minimize the damage!

OUR PROCESS

Benjamins’ Smoke Damage Restoration Process

The aftermath of a fire can be devastating and usually requires repair to the structure. Smoke odors penetrate the structure and contents while layers of soot blanket everything within its reach – including walls, flooring, carpeting, upholstery, fabrics and everything found in a typical property. A Benjamins trained professional will survey the loss site to determine the extent to which fire, smoke, heat and moisture impacted building materials and contents. They can quickly determine what can be restored, how to do it, and then get it done right.

Types of Smoke

The most common type of fire includes organic material such as wood, cloth, rubber and some plastics.

These fires follow the same basic fire tetrahedron (heat, fuel, oxygen, chemical reaction) as ordinary combustible fires, except that the fuel in question is a flammable liquid such as gasoline, or natural gas.

This sort of fire may be caused by short – circuiting machinery or overloaded electrical cables. Electrical fires may be fought in the same way as an ordinary combustible fire, but water, foam, and other conductive agents are NOT to be used. While the fire is, or could possibly be electrically energized, it can be fought with any extinguishing agent rated for electrical fire.

Certain metals are flammable or combustible. This category includes sodium, titanium, magnesium, potassium, uranium, lithium, plutonium and calcium. Magnesium and titanium fires are very common.

Fires that involve cooking oils or fats. Though such fires are technically a subclass of the flammable liquid/gas class, the special characteristics of these types of fires are considered important enough to be recognized separately.
